In the same statement, Monolith went on to explain that buying these followers with microtransactions would sour the experience the Nemesis System offers. While purchasing orcs in the Market is more immediate and provides additional player options, we have come to realize that providing this choice risked undermining the heart of our game, the Nemesis System." In a statement, developers Monolith explained their reasoning behind the move: Microtransactions, and the controversial War Chest system, which allowed players to pay real money to earn in-game Orc followers and other bonuses, are being removed from Middle Earth: Shadow of War. "A Sword day, a red day, 'ere the sun rises!"
